Recognizing the needs is the top priority for website designers.

In a fast moving world, where technology and life keep speeding up, it is important to realize what we truly need and what we just want. Needs and wants are different, one you must have, the others are a preference. Website designers must learn to recognize the difference and dig deeper to get the true goals of a project.

In website design, finding the true needs of your business is very important. A website designer who simply does not consider or even tries to find out what your business’ true needs are, may end up wasting valuable opportunities to provide you with great results.

Often times, a want will be described with phrases starting with “I would like”, or ” we want to…”, while needs are often expressed “we must have…”, “the website needs to be…”. This is an easy way to recognize them. However, people often mix both. A want can be expressed as a need, when in reality, it is a matter of taste. To find out the difference, we must ask deeper questions. See if the answers are tied to results and business metrics or if they are simply connected to personal ideals or preferences.

Of course, it is important to consider the wants. At Website Design Guelph we always take time to consider both.

Website designers plan carefully

However, time is limited and we must prioritize. Needs are always before wants. If something you want in your web design may have a negative impact in covering a need, then the want must be carefully included to work with the need and in some instances, may even be necessary to leave it out of the process. We make every effort possible to keep the needs on top and as many wants as possible while targeting the best results possible.

This is why Guelph website designers must plan carefully. A good round of questions before beginning a new project can save a lot of headaches in the future… and a lot of money too! Asking the right questions and understanding the answers is very relevant to start the project planning process. We call this part of the project the Discovery Phase. We try to discover what is most important and what is a preference, then we take them all into consideration and translate them into a series of design concepts.
